The Humane Society of Greene County is dedicated to finding good homes for homeless dogs and cats through our shelter, and to stopping abuse of animals in Greene County.

Buy a Brick Donation Program

Some of our supporters participate in our Buy a Brick program. There is a brick wall at the shelter, and for $100 you can add a brick to it. The brick will have an inscription of your choosing. This is a good way to present your family to other animal lovers, memorialize someone who loved animals, or put the name of your business in front of the public. Go to the Buy a Brick page to find out more about this way to support the Humane Society of Greene County.

The Future of the Humane Society of Greene County

The Humane Society of Greene County Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization that exists solely on donations. The number of lost, abandoned, and abused animals that come through the doors every year is 1,300! We are far above the national average in the number of animals we save every year!

WE SAVED 84% OF ALL THE DOGS THAT CAME TO US IN 2007!

You can contact us about our yearly summary data report for information about our annual operation.

Without ongoing donations, the Humane Society cannot stay open. It is the only place of refuge for the abandoned and abused animals in a rural county with a large animal population. You can help the shelter continue to work on behalf of the animals that have nothing.

Making tax-deductible donations is convenient and easy. Our Drive to Survive program gives supporters ways to help us now and in the future.

Consider this:

For Less than the cost of a pizza once a month, you can save lives and break the chains of abuse!

Join the Power of Ten Club to make this kind of miracle happen again for an abused animal. Click on this Drive to Survive link to sign up for a repeating donation, to join the Power of Ten Club.

Horse Rescue Request

The HSGC is asking for the public's help to house, feed, and medicate a Belgian horse rescued from a farm near Carmichaels, PA. Send donations to the Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road Waynesburg PA, 15370, or donate via PayPal on our website. At the top of this page you will find our address and links to donate using PayPal.

We get horses only occasionally, but most Greene County residents know that it is expensive to keep horses. We feel that this horse can be saved and adopted, but only after some TLC. Please help us.

Danny before his rescue Danny after his rescue

Danny was rescued from starving to death on a chain. Now he weighs 81 lbs. and he sleeps on the couch at his new home.

To become a member of the Power of Ten Club, arrange to donate $10 a month or more. You can use the secure and easy electronic funds transfer that can automatically make a deduction for you. It is simple to disenroll at any time, should you have a change of circumstances.

We use PayPal to handle credit donations, but you do not have to be a PayPal member or regular user to participate. Just go to the The Drive to Survive page or click a button above, and select your level of participation--PayPal will guide you from there.

Please consider being a regular donor and we thank you on behalf of the homeless animals who have no voice.

Get Out the Doghouse

There's no need to be in the doghouse. If you have one lying around, bring it to us. We can use it. Here is a flyer to tell you about our new program in which we adopt a doghouse. Or you can call the shelter about it.

Donation from Blue Knights M/C Club

The Blue Knights Pennsylvania XVI Chapter donated $1000.00 to the Greene County Humane Society from their 2008 'Blue Ride'. The Blue Knights along with the 'Blue Lodge' # 164 of the Free Masons sponser the annual 'Blue Ride'. This year $32,000.00 was donated to charities in Greene, Fayette, Washington, Westmoreland and Allegheny Counties. Local charities in Greene County in addition to the Greene County Humane Society were Tri-County Leathernecks (Toys for Tots), CYS Foster Parents, Catholic Charities and the Washington-Greene Womens Shelter.

Our Current Needs--Dog Food, Dog Boxes

We are always in need of good quality dog food. Many of the animals that come to us are badly undernourished. The quality of food is important in their recovery. There is a drop box outside our facility where donations can be left during hours that the shelter is not open. Please consider feeding an animal in need. Just look at the results we are getting!

The Humane Society is happy to take used dog boxes or dog houses. You can drop them off near our front gate, even if the shelter is not open. Humane Police Officers use dog houses for needy dogs in their care. If you had more dogs at one time than you now have, we are happy to reduce the clutter around your home by recycling your used dog house, box, or cage.

Thank You !

Art Works for Sale at Our Shelter

Local artist Callie Paul has graciously donated wood block prints she has made of animals that our shelter has rescued and sent to adoptive homes. These prints are on sale at our shelter, with all proceeds going to the Greene County Humane Society. To see these beautiful prints, go to the Artworks Page.

GCHS Receives Chamber of Commerce Award

Lost Dog

lost dog

This neutered, male, black and brown beagle is lost or strayed. There is a $500 reward for information on his whereabouts. Please call the shelter--the number is above.

Wallis and Frank

Here is the coonhound mix, Wallis, adopted by the Pazzynski family from the Humane Society. Lisa says, "Wallis is a great dog -- he entertains us with his goofiness and is just right for our family. He loves to eat, lay smashed up against the heat register, and run through the woods pretending he knows how to hunt." It looks like Frank Pazzynski is taking some lessons on relaxing from Wallis.

The Pazzynskis know how much good the Humane Society of Greee County does, do you? Think about helping us out at the giving time of year. Have a happy holiday.

Cash for Critters

Your used inkjet or laser printer cartridges can help the Humane Society. Turn them in to us at the shelter, or at the Humane Society bin at the Waynesburg Giant Eagle, and we can get money for them to use for animal care. We can accept all but Epson cartridges. You can clear out your home or office, recycle to reduce waste, and help the Society, all in one simple act. Contact the shelter for more information.

Adopting a Companion Animal From Us

  1. We will do our best to match you with a pet that fits the way you live and the resources you have to bring to the relationship with a pet.

  2. We temperament-test our dogs to screen out those that are not ready for life with people.

  3. If you are unsatisfied with a dog or cat that you adopt from us, we will take it back.

We would also like to mention that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires that all animals that we send for adoption must be neutered. This is how the state tries to ensure that the number of stray cats and dogs does not increase.

Humane Treatment

Most Greene County residents, and our neighbors, know us for the pets that we offer for adoption, and perhaps for our requests for money (we are not regularly funded by any government agency at any level). We hope that more of you get to know us for our second function, education, and that you get the opportunity to hear us at an animal show, or at school, or that you may attend our dog obedience classes when we can again present them.

Top of page

Sometimes you will find our animals available for adoption at PetSmart in Washington, PA or Monroeville, PA.
