It is a scientifically proven fact: playing with kittens lowers your blood pressure, calms your nerves, and extends your life. Take one kitten a day for three days, and call your life insurance agent for a rate reduction in the morning. Of course, if you want to take the kitten with water, WE WILL PROVIDE THE WATER.

One of our volunteers regularly updates our listing of cats on the Petfinder web site. Look at our Animal Websites page for all our links, or go directly to Petfinder.

kittens

Here is an update to a classic mathematical story. You have two (2) cats, a male and a female, and they have a litter of four kittens in 1999, and you do not sterilize the kittens. Let's say that there are two males and two females. Not knowing the biblical and social rules, these offspring mate, and in 2000 there are three litters of four kittens, one from the original parents, and one from each of the two pairs of kittens. Now you have 18 cats (six to a family, two parents and four kittens). Now it is 2001, and the same thing happens; you now have 54 cats. Does the story take shape in your mind after only three generations?

Spring is the season for doin' what comes naturally, for adolescent humans and all cats. We can persuade or threaten the humans, but those cats.....

If you know someone who has kittens they don't want, please don't let them just toss the kittens out on the street. Get them to contact us. Perhaps we won't be able to find homes for all the kittens, but you won't find them and their offspring on the streets in another year, suffering and causing a problem, or flat.

The shelter has many, many kittens and cats this time of year. We encourage everyone to spay and neuter their pets so that all animals will have good homes and not have to make any shelter their place of residence. In the meantime, stop by to see these lovely kitties who desperately need homes.

Fur Color, Spaying, and Neutering

We end our partial listing of homeless cats and kittens with a comment about fur color. You may wonder why there are so many mixes, and part-this/part-that cats. These animals are the result of non-neutered parents mating on their own, and delivering kittens that have no homes. It is difficult to control your pet for its entire life. If you do not expect to breed your pet for offspring, please spay (female) or neuter (male) her or him, so that we will not have to put your unwanted kittens' pictures on these pages, begging for homes. Call us if you want more information about the particulars of spaying and neutering. If you think you cannot afford spay/neuter, please call us about your situation.

While you are here, you may want to check our rules for adopting a pet.
